Coimbatore: A centre for excellence in solar PV systems has been inaugurated at PSG College of Technology in association with ‘PRO Sun Energy Pvt. Ltd.’

The objective of the centre is to provide awareness to the people about the importance of solar PV systems to the industry, academicians, and the researchers towards achieving the target of 100 GW of solar PV installations in India by the year 2020. This is the 45th centre for excellence in the college, says a release here.

The centre focuses broadly on education and research in the area of solar photovoltaic. It offers various courses for industry people, graduates, researchers and academicians in solar PV area.

These courses focus in the broad area of solar photovoltaic, including storage for PV systems, new materials, novel PV structure, balance of systems, power electronics for PV systems, and grid integration of roof top PV systems.

The current design procedures involved for off grid and on grid system design varies between different organisations forcing the research organisations to study on the same. At this centre, practical study on multiple design procedures is adopted where each plant is designed with a certain specification.

This centre will develop an automatic solar panel cleaning system, which can boost the panel’s output by 12 per cent and justifies the extra investment to be made.

The main advantage of this panel cleaning system is it does not use water to clean the panel and uses forced air and specially designed soft brushes. The monitoring system and Algorithm for the solar panel cleaning system will be written in such a way that the cleaning takes place in an optimised time manner.
