Chennai: Slogans against corporal punishment rent the air on Friday morning at East Tambaram as a school teacher allegedly thrashed a class 7 student.

Along with parents of the boy, several members of Islamic organisations gathered outside the private school demanding stringent action against the teacher who bashed the student for inappropriate behaviour.

The victim’s father said the boy had severe swelling on his hand and shoulders and was down with fever.  According to Ibrahim, a member of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, the student was asked to monitor sixth class. “As he couldn’t do it properly, the teacher beat him black and blue.”
