Nellore: Dermatologists have been advising the Holi revellers to use only herbal colours to safeguard the skin from harmful effects such as itching and rashes. Visiting Fellow in Advanced Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery (National Skin Centre, Singapore), Consultant Dermatologist & Aesthetic Physician, Dr Chetana Panabaka, MD (DVL), suggested those celebrating holy to apply a thick moisturiser or oil over the body prior to playing with colours as it will act as barrier to the skin and prevent colours settling on the skin.
Dr Chetana said, people with history of atopy (genetic tendency to develop allergic diseases) need to be extra-cautious as their skin is very sensitive. Avoid doing any procedure like waxing, threading, bleaching, laser, chemical peel for a week before and after Holi and wear sunglasses to protect eyes in case. In case of any irritation of skin, wash the area immediately with water, she added.
