Kochi: Three heavy vehicles were involved in a mishap at the busy Vytilla junction on Monday morning, resulting in heavy traffic congestion.

The incident happened at 6.10 am when a KSRTC bus rammed into a Torres truck at the Thykoodam U-turn point when the latter applied sudden brakes. At the same time, a tanker carrying drinking water hit the backside of the KSRTC bus.

The driver of the tanker lorry and that of the KSRTC bus were injured. The former, identified as Talayolaparambu native S.V. Sooraj, suffered grievous injury on his leg and is under treatment.

 "The bus was going from Muvattupuzha to Ernakulam stand. The truck carrying materials for the Vytilla flyover applied brakes as the other two vehicles behind rammed into each other. The driver of the tanker lorry was taken out by cutting open the front portion of the vehicle," police said.The Maradu police registered cases under IPC Sec 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or safety of others).

Meanwhile, the accident resulted in heavy traffic block for three hours, affecting scores of officer-goers and students, especially those appearing in SSLC exams.

The cops finally shifted the damaged vehicles using a crane.
