Hyderabad: Global inspiration for T-martyrs' memorial
It must be along the lines of Statue of Liberty, says Telangana CM.
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has been scouting for land along Necklace Road to set up a huge T-martyrs memorial along the lines of the Statue of Liberty in the US.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had announced such a memorial in June 2014 in the very first session of the TS Legislative Assembly, but it is yet to see the light of the day.
Mr Rao stated that details of all those who died for the cause of Telangana in 1969 and during the next phase of agitation, between 2009 and 2014, would be displayed at the memorial.
He is learnt to have taken a final decision that the memorial should be set up along the Necklace Road and asked HMDA and GHMC officials to identify land.
Following the CM’s directions, the officials collected photographs and details of 369 person who died in police firing during Telangana movement in 1969 and the martyrs during 2009 to 2014.
However, there is no clarity on the number of people who sacrificed their lives for Telangana between 2009 and 2014, though TRS leaders claim the number to be over 1,200.
Mr Rao asked officials to design the memorial along the lines of Statue of Liberty in US and the Statue of Unity in Gujarat conceived by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
