Lucknow: As the controversy over the Ram temple and the triple talaq issues gains momentum, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to discuss these matters at its meeting here later this week. The executive meeting of the Board is scheduled to be held at Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow on April 15-16.

AIMPLB member Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali said that  the meeting will discuss the Ayodhya dispute against the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s suggestion for an out of court settlement and the issue of triple talaq.

He said that the matter of Babri mosque is very crucial and discussion will be held whether there can be any way for talks for its settlement.

The decision is significant since it comes after Shia cleric Maulana  Kalbe Sadiq asked the Shia community to give up their claim on the mosque in Ayodhya.

The meet will also discuss ways to highlight the Board’s functions and activities through social media and strengthen its women’s wing. This will be the first time that the AIMPLB will discuss empowerment of women in its organisation and community. The AIMPLB has been facing resentment from Muslim women who are victims of triple talaq and many of them have filed PILs in SC challenging the provision of triple talaq and nikah halala, terming them as regressive.

The woman was upset as she had to give her child to the husband after the divorce. This is the first instance where a victim of the triple talaq system has committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh in recent months.

In another incident in Jamalpur area of Aligarh, a Muslim woman was forced out of her in-laws’ house after triple talaq. The woman later sat on a dharna in front of her in-laws’ house to protest against the practice.
