Kozhikode: Kozhikode DCC President T Siddique made a surprise visit during the council meeting of the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation to observe and assess the performance of Congress councillors while dealing with various issues.  The DCC president was accompanied by former councilors Palakkandy Moideen Ahammed and Kalariyil Radhakrishnan, who are in charge of Corporation affairs at the DCC.

Since the visit was not intimated to councilors, Siddique’s appearance at the gallery caught everyone by surprise. The DCC President arrived at the visitor’s gallery soon after the council proceedings started. Spending nearly one hour at the gallery, Siddique noted down points on how the councilors were dealing with various civic issues.

Speaking to the press after his visit, Siddique expressed satisfaction with the councillors’s performance. “This is an organizational audit which we would like to extend to the District panchayat and other civic bodies. We will appoint dedicated people to observe the performance,” he said. “We will give support to our councilors to effectively participate in the council proceedings including technical education.

He added that political parties had a responsibility to people and hoped this would be a new step in the right direction to be more dedicated to address civic issues. Siddique left the gallery by 4 pm, so the councilors could not interact with him.
