DMO sounds alert against dengue

Thiruvananthapuram: The district medical officer has sounded a high alert and appealed to the citizens to take precautions to avoid dengue fever. As per DMO Jose D’Cruz, the drought situation might contribute to dengue fever as people store water in vessels to battle water supply disruption.
“Since larvae of aedes mosquitoes are found more in shallower wells, they should be covered by nets. Similarly fish breeds like gambosia and guppy should be introduced into open wells to eradicate the larvae of mosquitoes,” he said.
Empty vessels on the premises should be upturned to avoid storage of water during summer showers.
Puddles should not be allowed to form in the neighbourhood. All who experience fever, headache, muscle cramps, back pain, vomiting and vomiting tendency should approach nearby hospitals without engaging in self- medication. They should take sufficient steps to avoid mosquito bites as family members might become infected, the DMO said.
