14 from Telangana die in road mishap near Veldurthi
The accident occurred while the bus was reportedly trying to avoid a motorcyclist.
KURNOOL: Fourteen people were killed after an SRS Travels bus hit their vehicle at a crossroads near Veldurthi on National Highway 44 on Saturday evening. All the dead belong to Ramapuram in Waddeally mandal of Gadwal Jogulamba district in Telangana state.
The accident occurred while the bus was reportedly trying to avoid a motorcyclist. The driver was said to be driving at high speed, police said.
Police said 13 of the victims were killed on the spot and another died in a hospital. Four others who were trapped in the multi-utility vehicle (AP 04 8386) were extricated and rushed to the Kurnool General Hospital.
The police said the ill-fated vehicle was hired by a family which came to Veldurthi to settle a marriage alliance. The police said that SRS Travels bus (KA 01 AG 4400) ) was going from Hyderabad to Benguluru. The driver crossed lanes to avoid a motorcyclist who suddenly appeared on the road and collided head on with the MUV coming from the opposite direction.
