MCI hauls up Shadan, RIMS for anomalies

Hyderabad: A report released by the Post-Graduate Medical Education Committee of the Medical Council of India, on June 9, reveals the deficiencies and irregular practices of medical colleges in Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh.
The committee’s report recommended that the MD (Pediatrics) course at Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, not be recognised.
At RIMS, Kadapa, the committee found that the MRI machine and investigative facilities like Nerve Conduction and EMG were not available and there were only two faculty members.

“Bed occupancy at 10 am on the day of assessment was 52% and there were other deficiencies as pointed out in the assessment report,” the report said for Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, not be recognised.
MCI recommended that the MD (General Medicine) course not be recognised at Rims, Kadapa. It has also decided not to recognise the MD (Anaesthesiology) course of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadapa.
The promotion of Dr C. Kavya, associate professor of Rims, is not as per regulations. Dr Kavya was promoted on June 12, 2016 after the cut-off date. One of the two research publications is a case report, which cannot be considered.
It also stated that admissions to any of the seats done prior to the recognition of the courses will be deemed as illegal.
However, MCI has given colleges a breather and said that if the college authorities want to comply with the rules they can do so up to four weeks prior to the next admissions.
