Tension prevailed at Penamaluru police station here on Thursday, when the supporters of a couple, who run a few hostels for men, attacked students and mediapersons.

Kochi: The Youth Congress Bhavan near St. Albert’s college in Ernakulam was vandalised on Saturday night allegedly by workers of the CPM-led Student Federation of India (SFI). “Ten masked-men came into the office and attacked three youth congress workers and damaged chairs and flex boards kept inside,” said Kerala Students Union (KSU) district president Aloysius Xavier. He accused that the central police arrived at the spot hours after the incident had happened. According to the KSU workers, the incident happened at 9.30 pm after few of them had left the office, leaving behind the three.

A group of ten men broke the grill and entered into the office and attacked one Renson Tomy, in the face. He was later admitted to a government hospital in Ernakulam. The central police said the incident was a continuation of the chain of violence happening between the two parties for the past two days in Sacred Heart College, Thevara. Men from both sides had come face-to-face on a couple of occasions in the past few days. Mr. Aloysius said that they will approach the City Police Commissioner if the central police is not taking necessary action against the assaulters.
