Hyderabad: South Central Railways will intensify monsoon patrolling in vulnerable areas to ensure safety of tracks. It will also draw up an action plan with respect to construction of rain water protection walls at limited height subways and monitoring of water levels of lakes which could affect the railways.
SCR general manager Vinod Kumar Yadav was speaking after a review of safety, punctuality and freight loading on Monday at Rail Nilayam here along with the principal geads of departments and divisional railway managers of the six divisions — Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded — through video conference.
Mr Yadav reviewed the safety aspects including monsoon precautions, minor derailments occurring in yards, signal failures and works related to unmanned level crossings (UMLCs) etc.
He instructed the officials to accord priority for precautions and to intensify monsoon patrolling. He advised DRMs to monitor the safety operations personally.
He wanted the officials to draw up an action plan to attain optimal punctuality while ensuring safety. He advised them to focus on passenger train movements which hamper punctuality and instructed to take corrective measures wherever possible.
He asked officials to identify the root causes for asset failures and take corrective action. He reviewed the loading performance of the zone and indicated several measures to be taken including supply of empty rakes to the divisions to meet the demand.
