Training for hostel cooks in Kadapa to maintain hygiene

ANANTAPUR: In the wake of reports of poor hygienic conditions while preparing food at the hostels leading to a series of health issues at the social welfare hostels, the Kadapa district administration has decided to train cooks to maintain proper hygiene.

This is the first of its kind in the state in which cooks of all social welfare hostels and residential schools and colleges are being trained to serve quality food for students to prevent any infections and adulterations   

Arthi Home, an NGO in the Kadapa district, is involved in the welfare of child and women's welfare for the past three decades is providing training for the cooks in residential schools, colleges, KGBV, Tribal and BC welfare hostels in the district to maintain hygiene while preparing food for students.

Kadapa collector V. Vijay Rama Raju said that a 12-day training for all the cooks will be provided from June 1 to June 12 at Mahila Samakhya Bhavan in Kadapa.

Raju said the cooks are being trained to cook quality food by maintaining cleanliness and hygienic conditions at the hostel kitchens. “Rather than presume cooking as just a job, cooks should ensure that students are served quality and clean food with love and affection”, the collector observed adding that the experts are providing necessary training for the cooks.

In the first batch, a total of 640 cooks and other staff members are being trained with four batches in 12 days. Experts Sridhar Rajamanikyam and Surya Vivek from the organisation are involved to train the cooks and workers of all welfare hostels.

The training will be completed on June 12 and the cooks and workers will be provided with aprons and other necessary material to maintain proper hygienic conditions. Arthi Home members Aruna Reddy and Sunil Kanth observed the proper training for the cook and hostel workers would definitely improve the quality of food with clean and hygienic conditions.
