Hyderabad High Court suggests 15-foot-tall Ganesh idols
Hyderabad High Court says bigger idols will hinder Metro Rail works.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday asked the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti and the state government to take steps to ensure that only upto 15-foot-tall Ganesh Idols are installed at pandals this year.
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao, while dealing with a petition by city advocate Mr M. Venu Madhav complaining that the earlier orders of the court with regard to immersion of Ganesh idols in the city lakes were not being complied with, suggested that the authorities arranged bins to dispose of materials used for the puja instead of dumping them in the lakes.
Justice Bhosale pointed out that the Maharashtra government had been arranging separate bins for Ganesh immersions. When Counsel for the petitioner insisted that an order on 15-foot-tall Ganesh Idols be issued, the bench said it was not inclined to do so, adding that it was up to the organisers and the devotees to embark on self-regulation.
The city High court opined that in view of the ongoing Hyderabad Metro Rail works, only upto 15-foot-tall idols should be put up. The bench also asked the state government and the GHMC to ensure that only natural colours were used in the making of idols.
