Nellore: Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy joins anti-liquor protest

Nellore: Women residents of colonies located opposite the cancer hospital in the city staged a protest opposing the move to open a liquor shop in the area on Tuesday. Nellore Rural legislator Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy joined the protest demonstration and advised the excise officials to shift the proposed shop to another location. He came down heavily against the licence holder for going ahead with the arrangements to open the outlet even as the women are protesting against it.

He told the licence holder to respect the sentiments of the women and shift the shop to another location or face the consequences. He said he was not going to keep quiet on the issue being the legislator of the constituency. He questioned the rationale behind opening liquor shops when the locals are objecting,  while reminding that the excise minister is also against wine shops, wherever locals are opposing them.

Local civic body member Prasanth Kiran and TD leader Barnabasu were among the protesters. He said that addiction to liquor was ruining many poor families as in a fit of rage, either the man or the wife are killing the other. The MLA said he would extend support to the women fighting against the liquor shops as their cause in genuine.

The MLA said people should think twice before consuming liquor as it would deprive their families of hard-earned money and also put them to different troubles like a tense atmosphere in the house most often.
