Subramanyam alias Omer left studies to take new life in terrorism
Subramanyam said that he got attracted to Islam after learning about the religion from his friends at Intermediate school.
Hyderabad: How does an ordinary student from a middle class family get attracted to the ISIS? The story of Subramanyam shows how young men get into the terrorism net. A native of Challapalli Mandal, Krishna District, Subramanyam had dropped out of college after intermediate. It was while he was doing his intermediate that he had his first brush with anti-India activism.
Subramanyam believed that he was living in the land of 'kufr' (non-believers) and that there was widespread atrocity against Muslims in India. He repeatedly asked his online mentors what he should do about it. He also watched sermons of Mumbai-based Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. After meeting a group of activists from Kashmir who had come to Hyderabad for a fund raising event, Subramanyam began to watch and read more aggressive pro-terrorism ideas.
Subramanyam said that he got attracted to Islam after learning about the religion from his friends at Intermediate school. He attended various religious study classes in Machilipatnam, and Gujarat. He said that his family did not accept him back after he converted to Islam and he stopped living with his parents. He then started staying with his friends in Hyderabad. "I attended a Madrasa in Gujarat", he said. In Hyderabad too he attended various religious classes.
