I-T raids reveal tax evasion of Rs 1,350 crore

Chennai: The five-day-long income tax department raids have unearthed a tax evasion to the tune of Rs 1,350 allegedly by Christy Friedgram Industry, the sources said.

According to sources, the income tax sleuths had recovered Rs 19 crore and 10 kg gold from 75 places including M. Sudha Devi, Managing Director. Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

 The surprise raid that commenced on July 5 came to end on Wednesday. However, the I-T sources said there is a possibility of another raid in the firm that supplies eggs and health-mix power to the state government for Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme.

“The sleuths have recovered numerous documents regarding the trade practice followed by the firm at those locations. Collating of the documents will take some time and after analysing the documents, another raid will be conducted,” the sources said.

Meanwhile, the sources hinted that highly influential people from ministers to officials would be ticked off once the details of raids are made public.
