Hyderabad: Engineers honour Mir Ahmed Ali Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung

Hyderabad: On the eve of Telangana Engineers Day, engineers commemorated Mir Ahmed Ali Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur who was known for his building and design skills. His birthday is marked as engineers day.
A function was held at Prof. Jayashankar Bhavan, Mint Compound. President of Telangana Electricity Engineers’ Association Mr Shivaji, president of TS South-ern Power Distribution Company Limited Engi-neers Association Tulja Ram Singh participated and recalled the services rendered by Ali Nawaz Jung.
Ali Nawaz Jung was responsible for major irrigation works and building bridges in the erstwhile Hyderabad State such as Osmansagar, Himayatsagar, NIzamsagar and Ali-sagar. He was involved in the construction of many bridges over rivers Godavari and Manjira. He was sent to England in 1896 to study engineering and returned in 1899 and joined the public works department as assistant engineer.
He was invited by the then Bombay Presidency to report in collaboration with Sir M. Visvesvaraya on the financial and technical aspects of the Sukkur barrage.
