Chennai cop rewards auto driver for returning cash bag

Chennai: City police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Saturday rewarded an auto driver who surrendered a bag containing cash which he found lying on the road in T Nagar, on Saturday.
According to a police press release, M. Arun (39) of East Tambaram, an auto-rickshaw driver, saw a bag falling from a two-wheeler that was going ahead. Arun took the bag and found cash inside. He immediately handed it over to nearby Mambalam police, who said it had contained Rs 74,000.
Meanwhile, S. Maheshkumar (43) of Chintadripet visited Mamabalam police station to lodge a complaint about his lost bag. After due verification and interrogations, the police handed over the cash bag to Maheshkumar. On information, A.K. Viswanathan invited Arun to his office and handed over the reward for his honesty.
The commissioner also rewarded N. Arumugam, a Grade I constable attached to Ambattur Estate police station. for nabbing three snatchers. “Arumugam was in his regular duty when the snatchers snatched a mobile phone from Praveen Kumar. He chased the trio, who were trying to flee in a two-wheeler,” the released said.
A.K. Viswanathan also rewarded another constable T. Ganesan attached to Aminjikarai police station for helping him manage the crowd at Rajaji hall where the DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi’s body was kept for public to pay homage.
