Wayanad seeks aid for victims
A total of 13,916 people from 3,768 families are living in 126 relief camps.
Wayanad: The Wayanad district administration has urged the people to join hands to reach aid to those put up in relief camps in the wake of the heavy rain and floods.
District collector A.S. Ajayakumar said in an appeal: “Hell has broken loose in the otherwise heaven-like district wreaking havoc. Notebooks of kids have been washed away. Countless houses have been damaged beyond repair. We request you to donate relief materials (groceries, dress, sanitary napkins, medical help, notebooks, school stationery, blankets etc) of any kind so that these people can restart their normal lives.”

The collector told DC that the data of inmates in relief camps was yet to be collected. Directions were given to prepare the details to ensure specific relief materials.
“Orders were also given to assist those who lost documents of various types,” he said.
A total of 13,916 people from 3,768 families are living in 126 relief camps. Vythiri and Mananthavadi taluks are the worst- affected where 59 camps each are functioning.
The release of water from the Banasura Sagar dam has posed a major threat to Mananthavadi taluk as low-lying areas have been inundated whereas in Vythiri taluk, high intensity rain has wreaked havoc.
