Centre assures all help

The governor said that he had contacted Home Minister Amit Shah over phone and conveyed about the situation in various parts of the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Union Home Ministry has assured Kerala Governor P.Sathasivam that it will provide liberal support to the state in view of the devastating floods.

The governor said that he had contacted Home Minister Amit Shah over phone and conveyed about the situation in various parts of the state. The Governor furnished a report to Mr Shah on the losses caused by the flood and landslides, the status of rescue operations and the present flood situation.

The governor also sought more support for relief operations in landslide- affected areas of Malappuram and other districts.

The Governor's report cited the rising death toll, extent of damage caused in different districts, the magnitude of displacement of people, hurdles in rescue work and the possibility of further damages in the coming days, if the rains continue with the same intensity. The report also appreciated the coordinated efforts of   the state administration, armed forces, Coast Guard and other agencies.

The governor has informed the Union Home Ministe that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had discussed with him about the rescue operations. The governor informed Mr Shah that he has assured the Chief Minister full cooperation with regard to rescue and relief operations.
