There is no dearth of water now as 2.5 lakh cusecs of water is coming from Karnataka.
THANJAVUR: An urgently convened all party meeting (opposition parties) by Thanjavur MP S.S. Palanimanickam (DMK) has appealed to the state government to open the Mettur dam after the water level in the reservoir reached 100-ft.
A resolution to this effect was passed at meeting held at Kalaignar Arivalayam-DMK party office here on Sunday. Surplus water released from Bhavanisagar should be utilised for cultivation in delta through Grand Anicut canal, the speakers said. "
There is no dearth of water now as 2.5 lakh cusecs of water is coming from Karnataka. Problem is only in water management on which the state government has not concentrated. If this year the long-term 'Samba' crop, only hope of farmers, fails then government should take the responsibility" cautioned Palanimanickam while speaking to presspersons after the meeting.
M.Selvaraj, Nagapattinam MP, who briefed on the resolutions adopted said that state PWD ,minister should convene a meeting of district collectors of Cauvery delta, people's representatives, farmers and other stakeholders and discuss about opening of Mettur dam and management of water.
