National Security Guards reviews security issues at Mullaiperiyar dam

Madurai: A team of National Security Guards (NSG) headed by its commando Anul Singh Gukim visited the Mullaiperiyar dam and inspected the security measures taken by the local police.
According to sources, the NSG team felt the security needs to be strengthened in the dam and surrounding areas.
They would also submit a report in this regards to the Central government, said the source.
The team reviewed the security arrangements at main dam, baby dam, shutter areas and gallery. The NSG senior officials also explained the local police how to handle the emergency situation in the event of terror strike or sabotage.
The team also heard the views from the Public Works Department officials belongs to both Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The NSG team conducted similar security review of the dam in 2014.
It is worth mentioning here the Tamil Nadu government had demanded the Central government earlier approached the deploy a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Mullaiperiyar dam over the Kerala police for its protection.
