Vetrivel fined Rs 1 lakh for trying to stall General Council meet
The court made it clear that any decision taken at the meeting will be subject to the final outcome in the appeal.
Chennai: The Madras High Court on Monday evening refused to stay the AIADMK General Council meet convened by the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Paneerselvam’s scheduled for Tuesday. It was hearing a petition filed by rival TTV Dhinakaran supporter and Perambur MLA, P.Vetrivel.
A single bench judge C.V. Karthikeyan, while dismissing the petition earlier in the day, also imposed an exemplary cost of Rs 1 lakh on Vetrivel for “wasting the court’s time” by filing the original application in the civil suit. After Justice Karthikeyan refused to stay the meet, Vetrivel filed an appeal before a two-member bench comprising justices Rajiv Shakdher and Abdul Quddhose. While hearing the case in the evening, the Bench said if the motivation of the plaintiff was suspect then the court is entitled in law to desist from granting interlocutory relief to him. The Bench said it agrees with the conclusion of the single judge.
The court made it clear that any decision taken at the meeting will be subject to the final outcome in the appeal. The bench then posted the appeal to October 23 for further hearing.
