Chennai: Plea to remove Vinayakar idols dismissed

Kanndasan also sought a direction to the authorities to seize the unauthorised sound amplifiers.

Chennai: The Madras high court has dismissed a PIL, which sought a direction to authorities to remove the Vinayakar idols placed in public places and road margin and to disconnect electricity supply. 

A division bench comprising Justices S.Manikumar and Subramoniam Prasad dismissed the PIL filed by M. Kannadasan, president of the Kancheepuram district Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, which also sought a direction to the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board to inspect the idols before it is taken on procession and not to permit the idols made up of Plaster of Paris or hazardous materials or painted with prohibited polluting chemicals. 

 In his PIL, Kanndasan also sought a direction to the authorities to seize the unauthorised sound amplifiers and to prosecute the persons who violates the law.
