Hyderabad High Court seeks Telangana stance on Varsity act
Para 33 of the Act which provides for only 25 per cent reservation of seats for admission into the courses.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday asked the Telangana state government to spell out its stand on a PIL challenging Para 33 of the Telangana State Private Universities (Establishment and Regulations) Act, 2018.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice V. Ramasubramanian was dealing with a PIL by J. Shankar and K. Balakrishna Mudiraj from Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy district respectively challenging Para 33 of the Act which provides for only 25 per cent reservation of seats for admission into the courses imparted by private universities for the students of Telangana state.
The petitioners contended that the Para 33 of the Act was against to the Presidential Order 1974, under the Presidential Order 85 per cent of seats for various courses have to be reserved for the students of TS.
They submitted that under the Presidential Order known as The Andhra Pradesh Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions) Order, 85 per cent of seats have to be filled with students belonging to the erstwhile united AP and the bifuracated AP and the formation of TS with effect from June 2, 2014 these 85 per cent of seats have to be filled up only by students of TS as was case before bifurcation.
The bench adjourned the case to next week.
