Kerala CM office refutes opposition claims

The chief minister's office said Chennithala's allegations were baseless and politically motivated.

Thiruvananthapuram: The government on Tuesday refuted Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala’s allegation that the administration had come to a standstill after chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan left for the US.

The chief minister’s office said Chennithala’s allegations were baseless and politically motivated. The Cabinet subcommittee is coordinating all activities for the rehabilitation of people in the flood affected areas. The committee is slated to meet on Wednesday to review the measures taken and further steps required.

Of the 6,05,555 people entitled to '10,000 financial assistance, 4,95,000 had already been given the money by Tuesday afternoon. The remaining people will receive the amount by Wednesday.

The distribution of kits to the affected families is over. As many as 7,18,674 families have been given kits. The distribution of kits and other articles are being done as per the guidelines finalised by Cabinet subcommittee.

After leaving for US, the chief minister had disposed of 316 files between August 3 and 9. The files are being dealt through electronic office system. The work is going on smoothly.

The cabinet is functioning collectively. In the absence of the chief minister, the ministers are functioning in a collective manner. As of now the minister and members of Cabinet subcommittee are engaged in fund raising in various districts.

The representatives of World Bank, ADB and International Finance Corporation had met the chief minister on August 29.

Subsequently the teams of World Bank and ADB had visited the state to assess the destruction. The evaluation will be completed within two three days and after that the teams will take a decision on the assistance to be granted to the state.

The World Bank and ADB teams are expected to submit their reports to the government by September 20. All works are going ahead without any hindrance and the government is discharging its responsibilities efficiently.
