Over 5 lakh people to attend MGR centenary fete in Chennai
Increase in prices of fuel is unacceptable.
Chennai: The AIADMK has planned to organise the MGR centenary function in a grand manner in Chennai on September 30. About five lakh people are expected to participate in the event, according to party senior and fisheries minister D. Jayakumar.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the YMCA grounds along with Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Jayakumar said arrangements are being made to ensure the participation of over five lakh persons.
He condemned the increase in the prices of fuel and said, the “hike is unacceptable.”
“The prices of petrol and fuel could decrease of the excise tax is reduced. But its unfortunate that the state can't do anything (now). The Tamil Nadu government has a heart (to address the concerns of the people of petrol price hike) but not the means. We can take a decision to reduce the prices of fuel if the Centre provides us the pending sum of Rs 6,000,” Jayakumar said.
