GHMC ignores pedestrians safety
The Civic body will construct only 153.23 km footpath which has been granted under periodical preventive maintenance.
Hyderabad: Keeping pedestrian safety at bay, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will only construct 153.23 km footpaths which has been granted under the periodical preventive maintenance (PPM). These footpaths were in addition to 224 km which were laid earlier against the road length of 9,000 km.
Last year, the state government had sanctioned `87.71 crore to lay footpaths in the city at feasible locations along with the roads taken up under PPM.
The government has instructed to lay 157.53 km footpaths at a cost of Rs 29.64 for the roads which fall under the GHMC jurisdiction and 152.23 km footpaths has to be laid by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation at a cost of Rs 58.07.
However, officials from the both the nodal agencies claimed that they would complete the construction of footpaths by September and would construct new ones due to financial crisis.
Furthermore, officials said that the issue pertaining to footpaths would be brought to the notice of the state government for future plan of action.
