Hyderabad: Police teams examining the documents seized from qazi Farid Ahmed Khan, chief qazi of Mumbai, are probing if he had solemnised the marriages or issued marriage certificates for Bangladeshi women or girls.

A police team which is checking the records have found that the addresses of local lodges and hotels in Mumbai were given as residential addresses in the marriage documents.

“The marriage certificate issued by the qazi does not have the residential address of the bride groom or bride. He is not giving satisfactory answers about why the names of lodges and hotels were furnished. We suspect the qazi had performed the marriages of the young girls from Bangladesh,” said an official investigating the case.

Meanwhile, the police are approaching the court to seek the custody of qazi Ali Abdullah Rifai, who was arrested by the police in two cases of human trafficking.
