Bengaluru: Cash van theft bid foiled, 4 held

Bengaluru: Four employees of a cash filling firm, including the driver, were arrested after they tried to flee with the cash van in Banaswadi police station limits on Thursday.
The incident happened near Om Shakti temple in Kalyan Nagar and their robbery bid was foiled because of an alert auto rickshaw driver and a woman passenger.
Police said four accused were employees of Radiant Cash Management Services and have been identified as Suman, driver, Manju Chandra, a gunman, Deepak and Sathish Kumar, both cash loaders.
A senior police officer said, “Around 2 pm the four accused had come to a private bank ATM near Om Shakti Temple. Three of them had loaded Rs 6 lakh into the ATM and then went to attend a nature call, while the driver was inside the vehicle.”
Meanwhile a gang of unidentified men came and threatened Suman with a sharp weapons and drove away the vehicle carrying Rs 5 lakh.
Suman immediately ran towards a traffic policemen and said that assailants had taken away the cash van.
Police said that the culprits ran out of luck as an alert woman Annapuranamma and an auto driver Mohan Kumar also noticed the incident and helped an assistant sub inspector Kumar from Banasawadi traffic chase the vehicle. Their efforts helped foil the robbery bid.
The accused, Umesh, drove away the vehicle and when he noticed that he was being chased by police, he jumped from the moving vehicle.
Efforts are on to nab him based information provided by the arrested staff, police officer added.
Preliminary investigations revealed that four of them, along with Umesh, had hatched a plan to rob cash and they had also made a duplicate key for the purpose.
When the driver got down from the vehicle, Umesh used duplicate key to drive away the vehicle.
