Good trial monitoring sees more convictions in Prakasam district

Tirupati: Prakasam police have made a significant progress in improving conviction rates in the district by effectively implementing the Good Trial Monitoring System. Sixteen criminals related to 15 cases across police stations the district have successfully been jailed as a result.

Superintendent of police Mallika Garg played a crucial role in ensuring effective implementation of the trial monitoring system. She held regular meetings with police officers, court monitoring staff and public prosecutors. This led to filling in all possible gaps in prosecution, which led to successful convictions during court trials.

When asked about the effectiveness of the monitoring system, Mallika Garg explained that several factors are involved in ensuring swift convictions, including proper submission of evidence, presentation of witnesses, preventing any compromises between the accused and victim, ensuring the accused's presence at court hearings and timely court trial schedules.

“We are particularly focusing on securing convictions in cases involving rowdy-sheeters. Our aim is to deter repeat offenses this way,” the SP stated.

Giving an example, she said in the murder case registered with N.G. Padu police station, two individuals, P. Venu and his uncle S. Krishna, had been found guilty of killing G. Vijay Kumar in 2014. They ensured a comprehensive trial, providing substantial evidence of their guilt. On October 9, Ongole court sentenced both the accused to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000.

Another case is assault and injury to one K. Chalapathy during the Poleramma Jatara at Ilapavuluri village. It resulted in six individuals being sentenced to eight months in prison on October 9. One more case related to theft of a silver crown and two mangalsutras from Ankalamma Thalli Temple in Uyyalawada of Giddalur mandal. They caught accused P. Narasimha Rao and presented him before the Giddalur Court. He has been jailed for three months.
