Andhra Pradesh: Widened roads to have cycle lanes
Vehicular traffic has increased in Guntur after various government department headquarters were shifted.
Guntur: The widening and beautification of major roads in Guntur with central dividers, drainages on both side and greenery is being taken up by the Guntur Municipal Corporation and Roads and Buildings department. Vehicular traffic has increased in Guntur after various government department headquarters were shifted. But the narrow roads fail to cater to the needs of the increased traffic. Hence, the GMC decided to spend Rs 100 crore and R&B spending Rs 50 crore development of main roads to resolve traffic difficulties with separate lane for bicycles.
GMC officials stated that the travelers bungalow on the main road would be widened according to available land. This is one of the busiest rod of the Guntur city hence the GMC further decided to form a separate lane for bicycles from Swami Theater center to Inner ring road. The 100 feet road of Chuttugunta junction to Bus Stand via Medical Club and Palnadu Bus Stand would expanded to 120 feet with modern central lighting, drainage and greenery. The Lodge centre to Amaravati road will be widened to 120 feet from present 100 feet. This road is turned as main road to go to Velagapudi and old Amaravati and Vijayawada-Chennai national highway due to connectivity of inner ring road.
Locals B Muralikrishna and others said that this road widening was started last year during Krishna Pushkaralu but later the works were stopped. They said that traffic largely increased on this road and similarly encroachments and sought development of road with encroachment removals.
The Lalupuram to Chuttugunta centre road will be expanded to 80 feet from present 60 feet, the Nandivelugu road from Mani hotel junction to Old city of will be widened to 120 feet from 100 feet, 60 feet AT Agraharam to Chuttugunta via Kankaragunta would be extended to 80 feet and 40 feet Old Club road to Nehru Nagar via Ring road will be turned as 60 feet road. GMC commissioner Ch Anuradha said that GMC will work in coordination with R & B and APSPDCL for the swift completion of road widening to avoid inconvenience to the public.
