Belagavi session: Stormy, combative

Going by Mr Ziyaulla, the government so far released Rs 2 crore of the Rs 6 crore it has promised to spend on the session.

Belagavi: The Belagavi district administration has booked 1,700 rooms including 80  at the  posh Mariott hotel  for the thousands of guests, including legislators and officers arriving for the  10-day winter session of the state legislature that gets underway here on Monday.

While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Chief Secretary will stay at the PWD guest house, the  Speaker and Legislative Council Chairman will stay at the guest house of the Visveswaraya Technological University (VTU), located 15 kms away from Belagavi city.     

“We have formed separate teams of officials for organising the session and deployed 5000 policemen to provide the security. All government and private guest houses, hotels, resorts and lodges in Belagavi have been booked for the guests, some of whom will also be accommodated in hotels in Hubballi-Dharwad,” Deputy Commissioner, S Ziyaulla said.

To avoid inconvenience to the public and VIPs attending the session, he said the police had marked spots for agitating groups near the Suvarna Garden. The government has however not given the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) permission to hold its Mahamelava  on November 13.

Besides the official vehicles, the district administration has booked 150 additional vehicles , including 80 Innovas and six buses for the conveinience of guests, including the media.
