Bengaluru: The Defence Ministry has in principle agreed to part with a small portion of  its Rajendra Sinhji Institute (RSI) campus for the Metro Rail’s Reach 6 of Phase 2 leading to the Kempegowda International Airport, according to official sources.

"A part of the Defence institute’s land is needed for the MG Road interchange on the Gottigere-Nagawara line of the Metro Rail. The land will accommodate the entry/exit points on Kamaraj Road as the station itself  will be underground," explained Land Acquisition Officer of Namma Metro,  Channappa Goudar. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) will use 1,400 sq.mts of the Defence land, but will occupy some of it only temporarily during construction, reveal sources.

" No money is being offered to the Defence Ministry. Instead an alternative space will be given to it in lieu of the land ,  possibly at Anekal. High level meetings have taken place on this between Urban Development Department Additional Chief Secretary, BBMP and BDA,” said an officer.
