Cyclonic storm Gaja' to hit Nellore, Prakasam
The cyclone was centred at 8.30 am on Sunday about 930 km east-northeast of Chennai and 980 km east-southeast of Sriharikota.
Viskhapatnam/ Chennai: After the devastating cyclonic storm Titli, AP is likely to face yet another cyclone, titled Gaja. If Cyclone Titli struck in the north, at Srikakulam, Cyclone Gaja will bring heavy rain to Nellore, Prakasam and Chittoor districts.
The cyclone was centred at 8.30 am on Sunday about 930 km east-northeast of Chennai and 980 km east-southeast of Sriharikota.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, it is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. It is very likely to move towards the west-northwest during the next 36 hours and then to the west-southwest, turning to the Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent 48 hours.
However, while moving west-southwest, it is likely to weaken gradually and cross coast between Sriharikota in south Andhra Pradesh and Cuddalore in north Tamil Nadu as a cyclonic storm on the forenoon of November 15.
The IMD has warned fishermen not to carry out any fishing activity in the seas off the coastline.
Dr S. Balachandran, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, RMC, said that since squally wind speed reaching 80 gusting to 90 kmph would prevail over Bay of Bengal, the fishermen should not venture into the sea from November 12. “As far as rainfall is concerned, there would be moderate rain on November 14, while its intensity would be more on November 15,” the weather expert noted.
Fishermen who have ventured into deep-sea fishing must return by November 12.
