Bangladesh Home Minister to celebrate Vijay Diwas in Kolkata

Held annually to mark India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 liberation war on December 16, the celebration will begin on Tuesday.

Kolkata: Led by Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, a 72-member delegation of war veterans and "Mukti Jodahas" (freedom fighters) from the neighbouring country will take part in Vijay Diwas celebrations at Fort William in Kolkata this Friday.

Held annually to mark India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 liberation war on December 16, the celebration will begin on Tuesday with a military band concert at Princep Ghat, an Army officials said.

On December 14 and 15, a horse show, para jump and band display will be held at RCTC grounds while on December 16 the wreath laying ceremony will be at the historic Vijay Smarak memorial in Fort William.

Altogether, a 72-member delegation comprising war veterans, 'Mukti Jodhaas', senior retired officers and serving personnel of all the three services will pay homage to our valiant martyrs.

"Massive security arrangement has been made," said Major General R Nagraj, MGGS of Eastern Command.

Mukti Jodhaas" who had participated in the 1971 war have been coming for the annual reunion for the last 10 years.
