Pink police patrol soon in Kannur

Two vehicles, equipped with continuous tracking devices, would be deployed in Kannur and Thalassery with the prime objective of extending assistance to women, children and senior citizens in need.

Kozhikode: Kannur is all set to launch 'pink police patrol' to strengthen women’s security.

Two vehicles, equipped with continuous tracking devices, would be deployed in Kannur and Thalassery with the prime objective of extending assistance to women, children and senior citizens in need.

“It will be officially launched this month. A vehicle will comprise a woman police officer, two women police personnel and a driver. The service will be available round the clock,” said district police chief Sanjay Kumar Gurudin.

Its services can be sought by contacting the soon-to-be-announced toll-free number. Besides attending to requests, the vehicle would roam around women’s colleges, schools, hostels and prime spots from where activities like eve teasing are widely reported. The police personnel would get training before the launch.

The pink coloured patrol cars are equipped with GPS tracking devices as well as cameras in the front, and rear wich will send visuals to the district police control room continuously enabling deployment of additional forces to various areas in need. The facility has come into existence in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode cities.
