Chennai: For the second consecutive day, emotional requests from AIADMK seniors and leaders to Sasikala to take over the leadership of the party continued on Sunday.

Party senior M. Thambidurai issued a statement justifying why Sasikala is best suited to take over the reins of AIADMK from late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

A steady stream of visitors to Poes Garden, the symbol of power for the past three decades, continued as ministers, MLAs and party seniors flocked there to have a word with Sasikala and request her to step into the shoes of the late AIADMK general secretary.

Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam and his cabinet colleagues visited Ms Sasikala on Sunday afternoon and held discussions.

Later, they also paid floral tributes to Jayalalithaa’s portrait there. Through the day, Ms Sasikala met party cadre, leaders and even employees of Jaya TV and accepted their condolences.

On Saturday, several party leaders had requested Ms Sasikala to take over as AIADMK general secretary and many ministers too joined the bandwagon.
The AIADMK is also planning to ensure that district committees across Tamil Nadu adopt resolution asking Ms Sasikala to head the AIADMK, in a bid to exert pressure on her to accept the responsibility.
