VIJAYAWADA: Residents of Lotus Land-mark Colony are suffering with various problems caught in between the colony association and the municipal corporation. Though it is said to be a posh locality, the residents are struggling due to lack of basic facilities.

The Lotus Landmark was constructed on the lines of gated community concept. But they do not have such permission from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC).

The Lotus Landmark is registered as planned layout with the VMC. But the colony association constructed a wall around the layout like a gated community.

They have even put gates and private security personal to guard them. Though the colony association was conducting the business as gated community, it expects the VMC to provide the daily services and other developmental works in the colony.

The VMC has stopped its services to the Lotus Landmark citing it as a gated community. The VMC contradicts itself in case of Lotus Land-mark. The town planning department says that the Lotus Landmark was not a gated community and only a planned layout. But the sanitation department claims that it is being maintained as a gated community and they do not have to provide any services.

The 51st ward corporator Kotiboina Darga Bhavani said that because of the colony association and the negligence of the VMC officials, people living in the area are facing problems.

She said there is no rain water outlet in the sector-1 of the Lotus Landmark and water gets stagnated on the roads even with a small amount of rain. She said proper underground drainage was also not constructed in the colony and the roads were also damaged.

A resident of the colony Puli Sreekanth said the colony association was restricting the entry to the people who are not having the vehicle stickers though they are not authorised to do so as it was not a gated community.

On the other hand, the association is not bothered about other developmental activities in the colony, he said. VMC commissioner G. Veerapandian said a meeting will be held with the colony association and the officials and a decision will be taken.
