NCTE: BTech-BEd students not eligible for teacher jobs
BTech-BEd candidates say that the eligibility criteria have not been mentioned in the qualifications for teacher recruitments.
HYDERABAD: Last year, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) permitted engineering graduates to enrol in BEd courses and the government made the necessary amendments to facilitate this. This year, graduate with both BTech and BEd degrees are not eligible to apply for teacher jobs.
BTech-BEd candidates say that the eligibility criteria have not been mentioned in the qualifications for teacher recruitments, because of which engineering graduates from across the country are facing problems.
Mr K. Sanjeev Rao, holding BTech and BEd degrees who wishes to appear for the Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT), said, “The TS government has not given us eligibility because the NCTE has not framed new guidelines for the Teacher Eligibility Test and the TRT. As per the old norms, we are only eligible to enrol in BEd courses. If BTech-BEd graduates are not allowed to appear for the TRT, why were we even allowed to pursue BEd?”
Mr B. Naresh, another aspirant, said, “BTech graduates who completed their BEd from Osmania University in 2015-16 were entitled to write the TS-TET. We are shocked that BTech eligibility has not been mentioned in the government order the notification released for the TRT this year. We are suffering as we don’t have any employment opportunities even after doing BEd. We request the government to consider the eligibility of BTech-BEd candidates and allow us to take the TRT.”
Mr Ghanta Ramesh, a member of the NCTE, said, “If the NCTE has allowed engineering graduates to pursue BEd courses, then they are eligible to become teachers as well. Since the state government has released notifications for the TRT without any mention of the eligibility of engineering graduates, they should release a new GO allowing engineering graduates to take the TRT.” Mr N. Narayana from the TS Teachers Editorial Board, said, “TS had made amendments due to pressure from unemployed candidates.”
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has also made amendments for the same reason, even though it cannot maintain the quality of teaching. The AICTE-appointed committee has not recommended these amendments.”
