Hyderabad: Caretaker minister T. Harish Rao created twin records on Tuesday in his Siddipet Assembly constituency. Mr Harish Rao won by a majority of 1,18,699, the largest in the state. By doing this, he was only retaining his 2014 record: He had topped the list with a 93,354-vote majority.
While had polled 1,08,699 votes in 2014, his margin itself was 1.20 lakh this time.
This was Mr Harish Rao’s sixth straight victory from the same constituency, a record.
Another notable feature is that his margin of victory has been increasing with every election. He won with a 24,594 margin in 2004, 58,000 in 2008, 64,664 in 2009, 93,585 in 2010 and 95,328 in 2014,
Notably, Mr Harish’s rivals have lost their deposits in five elections, which must also be another kind of record.
Mr Harish Rao said that the people of Siddipet had rewritten history by giving him a majority of more than one lakh vote. He would serve the people of Siddipet till his last breath. He credited the margin to the blessings of Chief Minister K. Chandra-sekhar Rao and the people of Siddipet.
