Coimbatore: Lorry driver held for dumping plastic wastes
Police department have setup additional check posts close to TN-Kerala border in Anamalai in Pollachi district to monitor and avert dumping.
COIMBATORE: Police arrested a 32-year-old lorry driver on Thursday night near Anamalai for attempting to dump three tonnes of Kerala plastic wastes inside Tamil Nadu.
According to police, on a request by the state pollution control board, police department have setup additional check posts close to TN-Kerala border in Anamalai in Pollachi district to monitor and avert dumping Kerala waste inside Tamil Nadu that are being brought in lorries.
Round-the-clock vehicle check is being carried at check posts including Meenatchipuram, Semmanampathi, Periya Podhu, Manakadavu and Govidhapuram.
Meanwhile, late on Thursday night Anamalai police inspector Selvanayagam along with his team involved in vehicles check, caught a lorry driver red-handed carrying three tons of plastic garbage waste from Kaladi in Kerala.
Police seized the lorry and arrested the driver Eshwaran, 32, a resident of Ganapathipalayam. Further investigations revealed that Eshwaran had earlier unloaded several tonnes of Kerala plastic waste inside Tamil Nadu and burnt them near Govindapuram village close to the border.
Police have also taken the lorry owner Varadharaj to custody and further investigations are on.
