Madurai: Police face tough time in controlling bull tamers

MADURAI: Police resorted to a mild lathi-charge on Friday to control the chaos that prevailed at the community centre at Alaganallur where hundreds of bull-tamers had gathered for registration for the ensuing jallikattu event. 

A bull-tamer sustained minor injuries on his head in the incident, said the villagers. The police had tough time controlling the tamers who had gathered for registration from various parts of the Tamil Nadu including Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga and Tiruchy to register for participating in the world famous jallikattu at Alaganallur on January 16. 

Despite the police asking the jallikattu festival committee to erect barricades at the community centre to control the crowds, they failed to do it, said an official source adding that due to non-cooperation from the committee, the police faced hardship in controlling the crowds.
