Hyderabad: A man accidentally set his house on fire while trying to spite his neighbours, a resident of Dwarakapuri, Punja-gutta, has alleged.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr Shoaib, a who stays at Peace Avenue Colony, which is opposite the house that caught fire, alleged that the resident, Anand, was a drug addict and alcoholic. “We had lodged a complaint with the Punjagutta police that he was creating nuisance in the colony but there was no action taken against him,” Mr Shoaib alleged.

He claimed that Anand held a  grudge because of this. To get his own back, he used to collect scrap from the surrounding areas and set it fire. The smoke from the  fire would engulf the colony.

Mr Shoaib alleged that on Sunday Anand in an inebriated condition again set scrap on fire in his house. The fire spread to the mattress and other household articles. The smoke covered the neighbouring apartment and the surrounding areas.

Mr Shoaib alleged that this mishap occurred only due to the police not taking action on their complaint.  “There are around 100 residents living  in the areas whose lives were at stake due to the fire accident. Fortunately no one was injured,” he said.

Asked about the allegations, Punjagutta sub-inspector B. Vijaya Bhasker Reddy, who was on night duty and attended the case, said, “These are false allegations. A discarded cigarette butt caused the fire which spread to the mattress. We have taken up the complaint.”
