Hyderabad: Close to half of the prefabricated toilets that GHMC had installed in the city two years ago have not been put to use.

The corporation had proposed to set up 200 pre-fabricated toilets in 2015, but managed to install 109. GHMC officials at the head office did not even know if they were being used or not.

Sources said that 50 per cent of the toilets installed were not open for public use and some have been removed during road widening operations. Even the one at GHMC headquarters has not been used in two years. GHMC had bought prefabricated toilets at Rs 5 lakh a piece.

A civic official said that the GHMC had been not maintaining data on their use. The only ones in use are the 19 She-toilets installed by private parties as part of CSR.
