IAF's fighter jet crashes near Pokhran
A Court of Inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident, said the official.
New Delhi: A MIG-27 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed Tuesday in Eta village in Pokharan tehsil of Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district.
“A MiG-27 aircraft airborne for a training mission from Jaisalmer crashed at around 6.10 pm in the evening near Pokhran Range,” said a defence official. He said that the pilot ejected safely.
“A Court of Inquiry will investigate the cause of the accident,” said the official.
A news agency report quoted Jaisalmer SP Kiran Kang saying no casualty has been reported so far, and a police team is in touch with Air Force officials. She said a police team rushed to the spot.
Earlier this month Squadron Leader Samir Abrol and Sqn Ldr Siddartha Negi, both test pilots with the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) died when Mirage 2000 trainer aircraft, which was just upgraded by defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), crashed soon after taking off at HAL airport, Bengaluru.
