Hyderabad: Traffic cameras to catch wrong parking
The automated number plate recognition is part of the Violation Management System project.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police will soon fix cameras in no-parking zones, which can record the registration numbers of illegally parked vehicles and issue e-challans.
The automated number plate recognition is part of the Violation Management System project. It identifies the vehicle immediately and generates a report within a few seconds based on its camera. Work on the project, for which Rs 100 crore has been allocated, is under progress.
The Violation Manage-ment System is expected to be in place in about four months and is expected to be launched in June or July.
The system has 12 other features including spotting speeding vehicles and vehicles being driven on the wrong side. It can also identify vehicles which run red lights.
According to the traffic police, similar systems in other cities have one or two such features. It is for the first time that a system with so many features is being introduced.
The traffic police expects to install 10,000 cameras as part of the violation management system.
Asked about the system, additional commissioner of police, traffic, Jitender said, “It is difficult to monitor violations manually. There are many limitations and the manual system takes a lot of time. The automated system will be really useful in monitoring violators on a big scale.
