SCERT report on state schools sought
The court directed the govt to involve the SCERT and undertake govt school in a particular taluq in a rural area and place before it a report.
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to place before it, within three weeks, a comprehensive report as to what modalities can be adopted by the state government to improve the learning outcomes of students studying in government schools in the state.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice T.B. Radhakrishnan and Justice A. Rajashekar Reddy made it clear that it is expecting “a specifically enumerated opinion of the SCERT” in this regard, while hearing a PIL petition moved by R. Venkat Reddy of the MV Foundation seeking a direction to the government to take concrete measures to improve the falling levels of learning outcome of students in government schools.
In the previous hearing, the court had directed the government to involve the SCERT and undertake a survey of the government schools in a particular taluq in a rural area and place before it a report.
The government pleader for education, Vani Reddy, submitted a 31-page report, titled “A Study on Enrolment, Transition, and Achievement Levels in Government Schools in the Five Mandals of Nalgonda District”. She informed the bench that an expert committee was constituted to advice on the conduct of the survey in three revenue divisions.
