Extra measures taken in Kalaburagi following country’s first Covid19 death
Family members of the deceased, as well as doctors are isolated as high risk suspects
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has taken extra measures in Kalaburagi following the death of a 76-year-old man who subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.
The man, a qazi, had come in contact with 46 persons in which 31 people had direct contact with him. Among the 31, some 21 people have been shifted to an isolation ward in the state-run ESIC medical complex.
Family members of the deceased person have been shifted to special wards in the hospital and are considered as high-risk suspects.
Doctors have been told to closely monitor these patients. Four doctors who treated the patient are also been considered as high-risk suspects, chief minister B S Yediyurappa told reporters on Friday.
The chief minister was chairing meeting with top officials of the health and family welfare department and other stakeholders.
Throat swab and blood samples of the family members of the man have been sent for test to the National Institute of Virology in Bengaluru, and the reports will be obtained soon, Yediyurappa said.
He asked people not to panic about the disease.
